Review: The Color Workshop Drama Queen Complete Makeup Collection

With the gift-giving season fast approaching you will see a lot of sets out there. I remember when I was younger Santa would always have a makeup set for me to play with (I think this is why I am a makeup artist today).  The older I got family members would always gift me with makeup sets, which I totally loved.   I prefer sets than individual products - better value for everything that you get. Also usually when you purchase sets all the colors and products work together, this is another added plus!

The next couple of days I will be featuring some holidays sets from The Color Workshop.  Affordable sets you can gift to any makeup addict new or old.

The first set is the Drama Queen 20 Piece Makeup Collection.  YES! 20 pieces, with all the colors working with each other.  If you follow me regularly you know I love PURPLE! I literally have in infatuation with purple shadows. I think this set was made for me hahahaha, not really but I can dream it was.

Let me show you through pictures! FYI All pictures are taken with flash except for the eye shadows and the swatches.   The shadows and swatches were taken in the daylight, it's a little dark and gray here in Seattle.

How the package would look like in the store.  Organized and ready to be wrapped!

This the whole complete set which includes 6 eye shadows, purple liquid and pencil liner, lipstick and complimentary blush palette.  You can store all your new makeup in the makeup bag which holds everything nicely.

These are the 6 eye shadows you receive in the kit.  A majority of them are different shades of purple with 1 being in the blue tones.  The ones with the shimmer top coat do disappear once you dip your brush in it and use up the top layer (eye shadow 4 bottom left) and 5 (bottom center).  You can really create a variety of eye shadow looks from natural to smokey dramatic.

TOP ROW

From the swatches you can tell they are pigmented and stay true to color.  I did use the Urban Decay Primer Potion before swatching. The shadows are a satin to a matte finish for these colors. More warmer shades of purples with some pinks in there too. For me I would use these shadows for more a day look - simple and natural hued.

BOTTOM ROW

Now for these shadows they are more cooler toned - lilacs to deeper purples.  The blue duo shadow actually swatched to be more purple! These shades would be lovely for more of a dramatic looks - colorful smokey eyes

 Swatches from top to bottom

Lipstick

- The color was a bit more purple than pink (lighting turned it more pink).  Very creamy and opaque.  For neutral eyes this would be great but for a smokey eye I probably would turn it down a little.

Liquid Eyeliner

- Ok this eyeliner is AMAZING! The color is gorgeous, something I have never seen before.  Also it stayed on sooo well, I kept rubbing and rubbing and it stayed on.

Pencil Eyeliner

- I love the color, it off sets the lighter color of the liquid liner.  The eyeliner applies unevenly and I had to go back and forth to create a deeper pigmented line.  Even when I kept going back and forth I still didn't get the desired line I wanted.  Also the liner felt waxy on my hand.

The blush trio palette is beautiful! I really like the range of colors they included in this trio. You will defintely need to apply the blush with the brush that is provided because it's hard to use a regular blush brush.  I even combined the colors and it looks lovely!

The blushes are also pigmented - will work with a variety of skin tones.

Can you believe this set is only $4.99??? YES?!?! WOW! You can find The Color Workshop sets at Walmart!

What do you think of this set? Will have another set featured tomorrow!

Disclaimer

I was given this set from the company for my review.  All reviews are my honest opinion.

Review/Swatches/Video: Revlon Colorburst Lacquer Balms

Ok, I just had to.. really I did! Now I feel my collection is complete - 10 Matte 10 Lacquer.  If you missed out on my matte swatches/review/video click

.   Of course my husband thought I was crazy but he should be use to it by now.  The lacquer balms are so moisturizing! I just love the way they glided on my lips and didn't feel they were going to slip off. Is is just me or does a lot of the colors all look the same on me? Wish they would have made some deeper darker shades for the fall/winter season and saved the brighter ones for spring/summer.  The color on the packaging can be very deceiving as you will see in the video and in the swatch pictures below.

Watch my review/swatch video!

Here are some pictures of me wearing the colors.  I am a medium/dark skin tone (MAC NC40-42, Makeup Forever #128, Urban Decay Naked Foundation 6.0, Smashbox Studio Skin Foundation 3.1)

Review/Swatches/Video: Revlon Colorburst Matte Balms Pt.1

When I find something that I just have to have (limited edition product, new product, must have product, etc.) I will go to extreme lengths to get it.  I think it's my makeup hoarder spirit in me that goes into full effect when I see something and need all of it. When I say need all of it, I want one of every color.  Will I use every color? Most likely no,  but just the sense of having the whole collection   My new obsession are these Revlon Colorburst MATTE Balms, I need them, want them, NOW! When the

Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stains

first came out I went out on a hunt looking for the colors I wanted all around town.  Now I have a new obsession, the only problem is trying to find these lipies! I spotted them at Bed, Bath and Beyond while I was shopping for cutting boards.  Whoa! Have you been in a remodeled Bed, Bath and Beyond? It's like a Cost Plus World Market, drugstore inside a Bed, Bath And Beyond.  I like the concept and environment that they are creating!

It was love at first sight.... MATTE LIP BALMS?!?! YES PLEASE. But the display was empty .. no mattes.  My determined makeup hoarder in me went into full effect.  I called all the Bed, Bath and Beyonds in my area .. only 2 had the new remodel - the store where I was  and the one closer to my condo.  Hubby and I went home (I have such a supporting husband!) and stopped by the one close to our place.  3 sweet little Revlon Colorbursts were waiting for me! I went home and fell in love .. now this is love.  I wanted all the colors.. not buts or exceptions.  Went back 3 days later and found 2 more still not the neutral pinky shades but who cares.

EDIT: I was hesitant about the Lacquer Balms but I gave in and bought all of them you can check out Pt. 2  by clicking on the picture or click

Here is the display ... I wish the display would magically restock it's self with all the colors. You take one and another would just pop up to replace it.  Gosh that would be great for all of us crazy makeup enthusiast out there.

Watch the video for live swatches!

Now time for swatches and my feedback on each one. I decided to go pretty neutral on the eyes while I tried on each color.  The mink lashes that I am wearing are from

Flutter Lashes

the style is Lindsay. Eyeshadows are from

NYX palette Love In Florence

Eat, Love Be Fab!

I found the rest of the colors  at RiteAid! Yay! Now my collection is complete.  Sorry my pics don't match I thought I was going to do a separate blog post but I thought it would be better to have them all in 1.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 230 Complex is a true nude beige.  I am a MAC NC40, this color looks like a concealer on me.  If you are looking for a true nude this one is for you.  I would definitely wear a lip liner with this one.  You can see from the picture that my lip just blends in with the rest of my face with no definition.  Also I really had to layer on this color.  I probably applied it 4-5 times before I got a true opaque coverage. The more I applied the more my lips got dry. It could be because this color is very light on me and you could hardly see it.  I am dying to try this lip with an intense smokey eye and dramatic lashes.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 235 Mischievous.  I really like this color - still neutral and soft with a pop of color. I will wear this one on a daily basis.  This is a great color if you are a little scared to venture out to bright colors but really want to try something. I had to apply this color about 3 times just to get the desired coverage with this shade.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 245 Audacious.  This is the shade that is featured on the display.  I have been seeing a lot of orangy lips on editorial pictures and on the runway.  This is a hot color right now. For some reason my camera made the container  lighter than it usually is in person.  The container in real life is actually a deeper reddish/orange. This color is a step up from 235 Mischievous.   Now the brighter you go the better the balm applies (in my opinion). To this this opaque coverage I only had to apply it twice.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 210 Unapologetic.  Ack so pretty! My favorite bright color our of the colors I was able to purchase. Again I only had to apply this twice to get a nice opaque coverage.  Keep in mind the container color is a tad more pinkish/red just like the lip color.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 220 Showy.  This is the last matte finish balm that I was able to get so far.  It's a bluish-pink shade.  From the container I thought it would be a little more berry and perhaps deeper (my camera make the container look brighter/lighter) but it's still a pretty color to wear!  About 2 coats of this color for full opaque coverage.

Hope I can share the rest of the colors with all of you once I can get my hands on them! :)

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 205 Elusive is a soft pretty in pink color.  The pink is not too light and not too bright.  This is a perfect color for those of you who want a natural color for everyday.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 220 Sultry. One of my favorite colors! This is a medium rose color with just the right amount of color for a natural look.  Would love to use this color for a bridal look.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 240 Striking. I thought this color was going to come out more orange but it turned out to be more of an orange/reddish tone which is still pretty.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 250 Standout.  Now it's time for a red! From the packaging I thought this would be more of deeper red but when I applied it the color was a pinkish/red.  I still really like it, the color is really pretty.

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm 215 Shameless.  I was really excited about this color and how it would look on me.  I wanted it to be a deeper purple but it turned to be more of a medium toned purple.  Can't wait to create a Makeup of The Day with this shade!

Matte or Lacquer what do you prefer? Also which colors did you get? :D

Review: City Color Cosmetics Matte Lipstick and Dual Lip Wand

Incredible matte lipsticks for $1.99??? Um, YES PLEASE!  I am always on the lookout for matte lipsticks.  It's always hard to find some out there that are not the department store prices.  There are 18 beautiful shades to choose from - the two that I have are Red and Mauve.  The lipsticks do have a fragrance, reminds me of cherry chapstick :) You can tell by the swatches that the color intensity is full impact opaque coverage. Mauve is not as bright as it looks in the swatch but look at the red such a glam color.

Dual Lip Wand

Another product that I wanted to share with all of you is the

Dual Lip Wand

in Magenta. My makeup bag is filled with lipsticks and lip glosses but now I have a 2-in-1 product a lipstick with the matching lip gloss.  No more loose lipsticks and lip glosses! The lipstick portion is a smooth light gloss finish very similar to a lustre finish from MAC.  It is not as opaque as the Matte Pipsticks but gives good long lasting coverage.  This lipstick, just like the Matte Lipsticks has a Cherry Chapstick fragrance.  The gloss portion is very sheer  and complements the lipstick very well.  You will find 12 different shades to wear with different looks.

Review: City Color Cosmetics Intense Blush Quad Collection 1

  The

City Color Cosmetics Intense Blush Quad Collection 1

is AMAZING! WOW! I have never found a blush palette like this that is affordable for everyone.  The colors are so vibrant and they stay on the skin very well.  With these bright colors I like to apply them with a fan brush so it just lightly sweeps the color on the apples of the cheeks.  In the palette you will get different shades of pink from bright hot pink to a lighter girly pink. Did I mention the blushes are all MATTE? YES! MATTE! YAY!  My favorite shade is the 3rd shade it's more of a mauve pink that can go with any look you are trying to achieve. I am very pleased with this palette and really want to get the other set -

Collection 2

which features peachy/orange/coral shades.  If you are looking for matte blushes with high pigmentation at an affordable price then this is for you!

Look at the colors!! I didn't even use a primer!

Speaking of primer ...

City Color Cosmetics does have a great foundation primer.  I used it for the first time to create a look for the next Makeup of The Day and it left my face matte and shine free in my pictures.  I was very impressed! At first it was a little hard to squeeze out of the tube but once you apply it the product just glides on the face.  This paraben-free primer does not feel heavy on the skin (in my opinion) and I like how soft it feels.  I instantly noticed that my pores were not as noticeable and how smooth my skin looked even after I applied my foundation.

Take a look how great my foundation looks! Totally matte no shine! This was a look that I created for one of my MOTD's I will post more pictures and product listing later this week.  It is all City Color Cosmetics!
