My MOTD Style

MOTD: Pink, Tan, White Prom Look 1

I've been getting a lot of requests for Prom looks since a lot of teenagers are anticipating their proms in a couple of weeks.  I remember my Prom so many years ago and this look would perfectly match the dress that I wore that night.  It was a pink 2 piece with silver rhinestones. Man, I miss those days getting all glammed up and going out with friends to enjoy the night.  My date was a childhood friend whom I've known since 3rd grade.  It was such a fun night!

Anyways back to the makeup.

For the look I used all MAC makeup since you can find counters and stores all over the place.

-You may use any highlighter shade you prefer, for this look I used Brule.

- MAC Passionate Eye Shadow (Crease). Best when applied with a blending brush such as the MAC #224 for a soft diffused crease.

-MAC Ricepaper/MAC Bamboo Eye Shadows (inner and outer lid).  Take a flat brush and pat a mixture of this color just to the inside and outside of the lid, keep the center open for the next color. Blend the color with the pink that you previously blended in the crease.

-MAC Crystal Avalanche Eye Shadow with MAC Silver Dusk Iridescent Powder  (center of lid and lower eye)  By placing a lighter color in the center of the lid will make your eyes pop!  Also smudge this color on the bottom lash line to open up the eyes.

-Don't forget your lashes, any style would work well.  If you like you can also add a little bit of the shimmer powder in the inside corner of your eye like what I did for the picture.

MOTD: Tropical Bird Inspired Colors

Makeup today is a bright eye inspired by a tropical bird.  Urban Decay Eye Shadows Fishnet (upper crease), Evidence (defined crease), Eldorado (lid) and Peace (lower lash line)

MOTD: MAC Dynamic Duo 1

For today's MOTD I used  MAC Dynamic Duo 1 Eye Shadow x2 (from the Reel Sexy Collection) for the crease and lid. Vapour Eye Shadow (highlight) and  MAC Waveline Fluidline Eyeliner.  The tape help create a nice clean edge for the outer corner of the eye.

The two eye shadows remind me of Expensive Pink and Vibrant Grape, if you have these two colors I would skip on the duo.

MOTD: Smashbox Dark Room Photo Op Eye Shadow Trio

Last year Smashbox launched their new eye shadow trios called Photo Op.  These eye shadows are a new formula with new colors added and some favorites from their past trio eye shadows.  In the beginning there were 11 trio shades to select from now there are 16 with 4 from the original collection. The colors range from neutral nude, soft subtle colors to the favorite celebrity inspired smokey eye.

I love how each pot has 3 coordinated shades that all work together, no more guessing work!  You get a highlighter, crease and base/lid shade all in one compact.  The colors also work great on their own and you can pair them with existing colors that you already have in your makeup collection. The shadows go on velvety smooth and the pigment is very strong.  To make the shadows last longer I would suggest using an eye shadow primer of your choice.

For this MOTD I used Dark Room  - Opal (opalescent pale pink), Granite (shimmery silver grey), Blackout (matte jet black).  The swatches on the top row are with a primer (Smashbox Photo Finish Eye Primer).  I even tried rubbing the shadows with the primer and they did not move! This is a great collection of shadows for a classic smokey eye and the colors are so versatile that they will work with any skin tone.

Products used:

Smashbox Dark Room

Opal - Highlight and Lid Color (for the lid use wet)

Granite - Crease (use a fluffy blending brush and really buff this color all over the crease and little bit above.  Blend in a circular motion back and forth.

Blackout - Detailed crease (this is best applied with a detailer definer brush or a slanted eye liner brush does the trick also.  Really emphasize this area by "carving" out the crease, do not blend.

Lip: Smashbox Pixel Lip Enhancing Lip Gloss.  This is one of my favorite nude lip glosses.

I will be doing more looks with the Smashbox Photo Op Trios, since I have the whole palette that I received for Christmas.  The Photo Op Mega Palette is exclusive to QVC and it contains 16 of the trios plus 2 limited edition 4 eye shadow palette,  cream eye liners, blushes/highlighters and lip glosses.  Your whole complete set, you really don't need anything else.  You can still find it at QVC. I am so behind in my blogging, there's so much I want to share with all of you! Hopefully I can get in the routine to post every day!!! :)

MOTD: Yellow/brown with a touch of blue

For today's MOTD I decided to change it up a little bit with a different layout.  I thought it would  be nice change to do more of a tutorial picture layout to show all my followers the steps to achieve this look.  It has been a huge success and will be posting more MOTD'S like this from now on.  If you don't know already I take all my makeup pictures with my Iphone 3GS and use FrameMagic (layout the pictures) and BeFunkyPro (edit pictures). Many people cannot believe that I do, but YES I do! These two programs have made my MOTD'S amazing!  My lighting always helps and I will share that later. A post about the My MOTD Style process is long overdue.. I must share the background.  SOON!

I have used the color yellow for a lot of my MOTD'S, before I hated wearing this color but now I can't get enough of it.  Yellow is a color that you really need to pair with a darker shade to add a contrast and depth to your makeup.  Pairing it with another brighter color would also look great! Some colors that would compliment the yellow would be bright blue, teals, grass greens, and oranges/pinks/corals (this combination makes a lovely sunset look).  I haven't tried purple yet, but I am sure it would look great also.

MAC Shadows

Gesso (highlight)

Brown Down (upper crease) use with MAC #224 brush for more a diffused blending effect

Embark (crease) use with MAC #219 brush and then blend with either #224 or #217

Chrome Yellow (lid) wet your brush with MAC Fix+ and apply the yellow shadow to make it more intense

Freshwater (lower lash line) a q-tip helps create a soft blended look for a drop shadow.

The lashes are 2 pairs layered on top of each other.  I will have a post about this later.  No particular brand of lashes, just the ones that I get at the Japanese Dollar Store, Daiso.  I love layering lashes because you can create your own style and look.  Also the lashes are only $1.50!
